Biography

Tolegen Mukhamedzhanov Mukhamedzhanovich - the author of symphonies, operas, chamber music, music for films, theatre productions, songs, romances, popular instrumental music. He is a poet and author of poetry collections.

Tolegen Mukhamedzhanov was born in the village of Begen, Beskaragai district of Semipalatinsk region.

His father is Nurseyitov Mukhamedzhan, his mother is Zabieva Sapura.

His first music teacher was Temirzhan Bazarbayev.

He graduated from Krupskaya Semipalatinsk Pedagogical Institute (specialization: history)

Kurmangazy Almaty State conservatory on a class of a composition by the outstanding composer Gaziza Zhubanova

post-graduate course (Phd.) in the class composition of the Moscow Tchaikovsky conservatory

He began to write music when he was 12 years old.

His first music composition was a love song.

Tolegen Mukhamedzhanov has composed music for more than 20 movies.

His songs were performed by such famous singers as: Roza Baglanova. Ermek Serkebaev, Bibigul Tulegenova, Alibek Dnishev, Roza Rymbayeva, Irina Ponarovskaya, Irina Otieva, singers as Batyrkhan Shukenov, Nurzhamal Usenbayeva, Stas Pyekha, Leonid Serebryannikov, Mansur Tashmanov, Nagima Eskalieva, Makpal Zhunusova, Aizhan Nurmagambetova, Baurzhan Isaev, Meruert Tusupbaeva, the music bands: "Na-Na", "Dos-Mukasan", "Akynay" and others.

Besides the songs, he has composed two operas:

"Aldar Kose" and the rock opera "Zher - Uiyk"

 two musical comedies,

vocal cycles to the verses of Abai and Chinese poet Li-Bo 

two symphonies, symphonic poem "Makhambet", pieces for symphony orchestra, choir, three albums of popular instrumental music, two string quartets, piano trio, piano quintet, instrumental pieces. 

His literary occupation was sudden. Mukhamedzhanov started to write poems very late, just six years ago, using the pen-name Jean Loone. The first collection of the "Declaration of love" which was published in Moscow had a great success, which undoubtedly gave him confidence in his abilities. Since then two books were published, and the fourth book is being prepared to publish. 

His working biography began, when he was 11 years old. During summer vacations he worked as a postman for three months and every summer he was engaged in haymaking, building and worked at barnyard.

He did military service in the Soviet army, worked as a teacher at the Semipalatinsk Pedagogical School; also he worked as a teacher at the Kurmangazy Almaty State conservatory.

In 1987 he was appointed as a director of Abai State Academic Opera and Ballet theatre.

Tolegen Mukhamedzhanov is an active participant of public movement "Nevada-Semipalatinsk", a friend and colleague of the leader of the movement O. Suleymenov. He is the author of the famous song "Zaman-ai", which has become the hymn of public protest. 

Since 1990 T. Mukhamedzhanov organizes and conducts the largest cultural and socio-political actions: the International Contest "Voice of Asia", World Congress of Spiritual Concord, charitable actions during the Days of Spiritual Concord and many others.

From 1998 to 2004 - Deputy Mayor of Astana city, from 2004 to 2007, the deputy of Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, since 2007 deputy of Senate of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

He is the President of International Public Fund "Congress of Spiritual Concord." 

His work on preserving and strengthening the socio-cultural identity of a young Kazakh state, the devotion to the idea of peace and concord, popularization of country's achievements on the international level have received a high estimation of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. 

Tolegen Mukhamedzhanov is a laureate of the State Award of the Republic of Kazakhstan, holder of the order "Parasat".

On October 31, 2012 by the order of Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev T. Mukhamejanov was appointed Director of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre “Astana Opera”.

On November 7, 2012 Tolegen Mukhamejanov won the International Prize “Man of the Year 2012” in the category of Culture.

Since February 1, 2012 Tolegen Mukhamejanov has been a Member of the World Academy of Art and Science.

By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan of 9 December 2013 T. Mukhamejanov was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Kazakhstan”.

The new collection of poems and parables titled “To you with love” was released in March 2014.

 On July 5, 2014 Tolegen Mukhamejanov was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Astana city by Nursultan Nazarbayev, Head of State.

On October 8, 2014, Tolegen Mukhamejanov was awarded the gold medal “Birlik” for his services in strengthening unity, peace and harmony in the Republic of Kazakhstan as well as for the development of the Spiritual Culture.

 

On November 13, 2014 by the Presidential decree Mukhamejanov Tolegen was relieved of his duties as Director of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre "Astana Opera".
